Calamari Speziato; Spicy Calamari, Italian Style

Fried Calamari Speziato at Marco's Italian Restaurant

This dish is all about the fried calamari. The hot peppers and blue cheese are nice accompaniments, but the star of the show is the fried squid. The key to making this dish really shine is to get the frying just right. The calamari should be cooked through, but still tender and not rubbery. The batter should be light and crispy, without being too heavy. And the marinara dipping sauce should have a good kick of spice to it. If you can get all of that right, you'll have a dish that's sure to please any seafood lover. This Fried Calamari is available on our Lunch Menu and our Dinner Menu as an appetizer.

This spicy marinara sauce is named for the Italian phrase "fra diavolo," which means "from the devil." And let me tell you, this sauce is fiery! The base is a simple tomato sauce, but the addition of red pepper flakes and cayenne pepper give it a serious kick. If you're looking for a sauce that will really bring the heat, fra diavolo is definitely the way to go. Just be warned: it's not for the faint of heart!
