Delivery Apps VS Restaurant Online Ordering: The Pros and Cons of each

Marco Posadas • Apr 15, 2022

Why order from Delivery apps? Simple: because third party delivery apps offer the best selection of food there in on the internet. Delivery Apps offer a level of convenience and almost insurance on your meals. You can order from almost any restaurant in your area, no matter how small or obscure. There's no need to limit yourself to the big chains. And because we partner with local businesses, you can be sure that your order will be fresh and delicious. But how do they do that?

Insurance on your meals. If you have an issue with something your order from a third party, its as easy as scrolling through social media to communicate with customer service and receiving a refund for your item. almost too easy. Why is it so easy? because Third party apps charge about 30% of the cost of your order to the restaurant. so If your meal is $50, the restaurant only gets about $35 for your order. Thats why it's so much better to order direct from your favorite restaurant's website. If you love a restaurant and theres an issue with an order they would offer you the same courtesy though. I know at Marco's we definitely do. We want all of our guests to have a top notch experience, whether they order through a third party app, through our website or over the phone. I believe people like the sense of anonymity though.

The Most Honest Reviews. Because third party apps are so active, almost to the level of social media, the reviews are the most honest Much like my previous point, people like the sense of anonymity. When leaving a review on a platform like Facebook, It is directly linked to your personal Facebook profile. Also, there is a disconnect from ordering food from a restaurant then going on to FB and leaving a review. On delivery apps it's all in one place; Order food, eat it, and review it. Third party apps also pursue their customers to leave reviews.  So you get the most honest AND most current opinions of peoples experience on these apps when you make decisions from their reviews. These reviews come at a cost though. See, the reviews can actually be based on the delivery app itself however, it may seem like its the restaurants fault.

Their drivers are not our Employees So you order $75 worth of food from a delivery app. 45 minutes later your driver arrives, conviently notifies you by sending a photo through the app and voila! dinner is served. Then you open your meal to find it is cold, and not fresh. immediately the thought process is that the restaurant doesn't make fresh food; or isn't fast. That couldn't be further from the truth. I'll give you an example. at Marco's, we have our food ready in 20 minutes or less and have our own delivery drivers serving a 3 mile radius. Your food will be ready and delivered in a half hour, hands down. When using the apps, restaurants will still make your food at the same speed, but we have no control over who these drivers are and when they will arrive. We have had food sit for 45 minutes before the driver arrives. That means the whole order will probably take over an hour! Of course the fettuccini Alfredo is cold! When you order direct from a restaurant's website, they dispatch their drivers almost immediately to deliver your food. It's faster and your food will always be fresher.

One last note about the quality of service you receive ordering from these apps. I'll give another example. Someone ordered a beautiful Alfredo pizza the other day. Everyone knows how a pizza box is supposed to sit right? The app driver picks up the pizza, and puts it under her arm like shes carrying a book! the pizza was completely ruined! We had to remake the pizza and then get a new driver. it took almost 2 hours for a customer to receive a small pizza.

The moral of the story: Respect the efforts of your local restaurants who care enough about their customers to fix their issues on orders, who work hard to staff drivers to deliver your food quickly and who will handle your food with care. We want you to enjoy your food the way it is supposed to be enjoyed; hot and fresh!
